DSB International cancelled the events as ‘it was very difficult to do physical activities in polluted air’.

DSB International School which has branches at Breach Candy and Babulnath has cancelled the Sports Day event due to air pollution in the city.

The two-day event was scheduled to take place today and yesterday at Priyadarshini Park and at the school’s Breach Candy branch respectively.
“We have been constantly monitoring the air quality and took a decision on Thursday morning to cancel the event as the air quality is very bad,” school teacher Shirin Petit told Mirror.

“It is very difficult to do physical activities in such polluted air. We hold our annual sports events at this time of the year. It is very difficult to get a booking at Priyadarshani Park in winter as many schools hold their activities there. We have postponed our events and will be rescheduling them,” the teacher said.

Most state-run and international schools had their sports days in December and January.

Comment from Priyadarshini Park #SavePDP Campaign:

If the air pollution is not bearable at Priyadarshini Park, which is near the sea. What would be the state of air pollution of rest of Mumbai.

We ask, is the Govt. of India, Govt. of Maharashtra and the BMC doing enough to prevent air pollution and keep the atmosphere of Mumbai clean?
