The youth (6-12 years) or adolescent (12-19 years) athlete goes through many changes in life and in sport. As a result, many crucial decisions for long-term athletic development are made during this time period. With early sport specialization becoming more prevalent among youth athletes, it is important to ensure that individuals are competent in a broad spectrum of movements so that they are well rounded and able to perform their sports activities in the safest manner possible.
We start by ascertaining age-appropriate programming suitable for a developing athlete. Then comes strength and conditioning. At PDP we focus on developing strength, coordination and athleticism from the age of six (which is the age where we take athletes for training at PDP). With this in mind, the following five points highlight how strength and conditioning and athletic training can be useful for an athlete pursuing any sport.
- Preparation for the Future
- Reduced Injury Risk
- Increases in Strength
- Smaller Incidence of burnout or overspecialization
- More enjoyment in movement and physical activity for a lifetime
All these aspects of training are implemented at Athletics section of PDP by certified and experienced coaches.
