Entry to the Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex is totally free. PDP is open from 5:00 am to 9:00 pm and all are welcome to enjoy the beautiful ambience of the park and avail of its sports facilities. There are no hoardings or advertisements put up to spoil the natural beauty of the environment; nor is there a Clock anywhere to hurry you from your leisurely walk around the Park.
The 400 metre, eight lane Olympic Styled Synthetic Track at PDP was made at a cost of Rs 2.00 crores and inaugurated by the then Mayor of Mumbai, Shri Chhagan Bhujpal, and presided over by the President of the Olympic Association of India, Mr Tara Malkani, who is himself a National Athletic Champion. For this track, Rs 70 lakhs were given by the Government of India, Rs 25 lakhs by the Government of Maharashtra and Rs 10 lakhs by shri B A Desai from the MLA fund.
At the inception of PDP, 60 grown up Coconut trees were transported from Nargol and were planted along the coastline. Today Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex boasts of more than 300 coconut trees all over the coastline as well as inside the park, providing a beautiful ambience and surrounding, making one almost feel you are walking in Goa.
The view of the setting sun is always soothing for the soul. From the Priyadarshini Park and sports Complex viewing gallery, it is spiritually rejuvenating to see the setting sun dip into the Arabian Sea, while the sea breeze gently sways the numerous coconut trees to its melodious tune. This is a must-see for all visiting the Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex.
The stretch of Banyan trees next to the road act as a noise barrier from the noise and cackle of the traffic outside Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex. These help coocoon the park and keep the noise pollution away from the Park.
In keeping with the Park's philosophy of "Blending sports with Nature", the viewing gallery to the stadium is made fully of soil only - no concrete at all has been used here. When you sit at the viewing gallery, a glance over your shoulder will give you a magnificent view of the grand expanse of the Arabian Sea behind.
Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex is aware of the growing health consciousness amongst Mumbaikars. We encourage fresh juices and health drinks. There is also a person selling wheatgrass juice just outside the Park. Our Refresment Centre sells fresh Coconut Water. We also provide anyone and everyone with FREE cold water from our latest water e-boiling system.
Priyadarshini Park and Sports Complex is conscious of the needs of all its patrons. We allow dogs in the park from 7:30 am to 9:00 am in a specified area. We also allow children to cycle in the park from 9:00 am to 11:00 am. We also have a sand pit on the Artificial Beach where kids can make sand-castles and play in the sand pit with beach toys.
